The 70th annual Golden Globe awards will take place on Sunday, January 13, 2013. ‘Orange tint’, a term used to describe skin that is unnaturally dark with an orange-like tone, can happen when tanning solution is applied improperly or when a technician fails to evaluate a customer’s skin, says Emmons. “It can take several days to fade or lighten, even with exfoliation or rubbing the skin with oils.”
 
 
Airbrush tanning is the application of self-tanners through a spray gun or HVLP (high-volume, low-pressure) system. The solutions contain DHA (Dihydroxyacetone), a colorless sugar that reacts to the surface of the skin. Depending on a customer’s skin type and the type of tanning solution used, resulting tans range from lightly bronze to dark -- and in worse cases, orange.
 
 
“Working with an experienced, licensed and certified spray tanning technician is really important,” adds Emmons. “Whether it’s the Golden Globe awards or your wedding day, a bad or overly dark spray tan never looks good.”
